Although Adris Group d.d. has only existed since 2003, our tobacco business unit has a century long history.
Established back in 1872 as a factory for supplying officers of the Austro-Hungarian military with cigarettes, Tvornica duhana Rovinj developed into a distinguished cigarette manufacturer. By the end of World War I, the factory operated within the system of the Austrian tobacco monopoly; between the two World Wars it became a part of the Italian tobacco monopoly.
After World War II, the year 1952 was particularly significant for the development of the factory in Rovinj. That is when the factory was equipped with completely new machines for the first time. This resulted in a richer product assortment and the modernization of the distributive network.
In the early 1960s, the operation of this company was connected to a very popular cigarette, Primorka; an important market move for the company was created with an implemented business partnership with Austria Tabakwerke AG. Cooperation with the Austrian partner allowed the Rovinj tobacco experts to quickly master the modern technology and marketing, which had a positive effect on later business results.
An important period in further development were the 1980s. The brightest star in the product line of Tvornica duhana Rovnij, Ronhill, was created; the factory entered the era of computerization, and the central business strategy became focused on the needs of the consumers.
In the 1990s, Tvornica duhana Rovinj became the leading Croatian tobacco company and has remained in that position until today.
In January 2001, the Management board of Tvornica duhana Rovinj passed a decision on the establishment of its own tourism company, Adria Resorts d.o.o., which would be concentrated on making investments in attractive locations in the Istria region and along the Adriatic coast.
Two years later, in December 2003, Adris Group d.d. was founded.
